About

Fees on donations bothered us into building this.

tapbanc started in a mosque lobby, watching a donation station take its cut of every gift on the busiest night of Ramadan.

Our story

We've spent years running a UK community institution — the kind of place where the accounts are read aloud at the AGM and every pound is somebody's trust in you. When we put in contactless donation stations, giving went up. So did the fees. Nobody in the room had chosen that trade-off; it was just how card machines worked.

Then UK banking quietly changed. Open banking made it possible for money to move directly from one bank account to another — instantly, securely, and without the card network's percentage. The big payment companies had little reason to offer it. Their fees are the business.

So we built the terminal we wanted to see in our own lobby: cards for everyone who wants them, Pay by Bank for everyone who's happy to save us the fee, Gift Aid handled properly, and every number on a public pricing page. It's UK-designed, built in London, and runs on FCA-regulated rails.

How we work

Three rules we won't break.

Pricing in public

Every rate we charge is on the pricing page. If a figure on this site is illustrative, it says so next to the figure.

No invented proof

No fake testimonials, no made-up user counts, no borrowed press logos. If a number appears on this site it's real — and if it's an estimate, it's labelled as one.

Donations are sacred

We built this for places of worship first. The product treats a £5 gift with the seriousness of a £5,000 one.
